Once students have a basic familiarity with fractions, the next step is to understand how to compare fractions. Sometimes the concept of denominators takes a little time to grasp. Often students will confuse a larger denominator with a larger value for the fraction, when in reality the numerator, not the denominator, expressed the actual value being represented. The size of the numerator relative to the denominator is what ultimately describes the actual value of the fraction.
Addition is one of the basic math skill. Work on different addition skills like addition of two numbers of one digit, of three numbers of 1 digit, with zero, of 2 digit number with a 1 digit number with/without carry, of 2 digit number with a 1 digit number with/without carry, of two numbers of 2 digit with/without carry, of three numbers of 2 digit with/without carry and much more.
Once you have built an understanding of the concept of division you can try using these division worksheets. When teaching early division you should also discuss that division has an opposite. Discuss how division is about separating sets, while the opposite type of math, called multiplication is about combining sets. Explore this relationship with your child as it will be important when recalling basic facts to solve division problems. Introduce fact families (e.g. 5 x 3 =15, 3 x 5 = 15, 15 ÷ 3 = 5, 15 ÷ 5 = 3).
Encourage your child to work on a new math addition worksheet everyday to keep adding skills fresh. Mix things up with basic addition worksheets and more challenging exercises, and even a few addition facts worksheets to keep your child engaged with the subject.
