Addition is an operation in which one number is added to another number. When adding a series of numbers, there are some strategies that help simplify the addition process. One thing to remember is to group numbers to make tens. For example, when adding 2 + 7 + 8, you can add the 2 and the eight first to get ten, and then add the seven to get 17. Some teachers call these groups of numbers that add to ten, "friendly tens," since they make adding easier for the student.
One of the biggest problems is that there are so many different concepts and equations in algebra and in order to be successful you have to understand the entirety of it or you will not be able to figure out which procedure to use. You learned the order of operations years ago and that is one key tool for algebra. This tool allows you to understand which process happens first and so on. PEMDAS is a very valuable tool.

Using times tables is simple. Practice multiplying the 2’s, 5’s, and 10s first, then the doubles (6 x 6, 7 x 7, 8 x 8). Next, move to each of the fact families: 3’s, 4’s, 6’s, 7s, 8’s, 9’s, 11’s, and 12’s. Start by doing one sheet and see how long it takes you to complete it. Do not worry about how many right or wrong answers you get the first time you complete a worksheet. You will get faster as you become better at multiplying. Do not move to a different fact family without first mastering the previous one.
