One of the first skills students learn is addition. Addition is the natural advance after counting. Many students do not grasp this basic skill properly. As a result, students find it difficult to advance to higher level skills and they get stuck. Therefore, to make the task easier, here are five easy ways to learn addition. You may have heard of some of these games, they go by many different names. In addition to some simple games, we offer up some techniques to keep in mind when adding numbers in general. If you are already good at addition, you will still find these tips helpful to make you faster at addition.

Addition is an operation in which one number is added to another number. When adding a series of numbers, there are some strategies that help simplify the addition process. One thing to remember is to group numbers to make tens. For example, when adding 2 + 7 + 8, you can add the 2 and the eight first to get ten, and then add the seven to get 17. Some teachers call these groups of numbers that add to ten, "friendly tens," since they make adding easier for the student.

Long Division. There are different methods for dividing multi-digit numbers (long division). One way is a combination of estimation/ trial and error and multiplication. There is also a commonly used algorithmic method that is well explained and illustrated here at mathisfun.com.

Use mnemonics and silly stories to help you remember. A mnemonic is a special technique or learning device that helps you remember something. Stories like Times Tales can help you memorize your multiplication facts by associating the numbers with silly characters and stories. Phrases like 5 6 7 8, 56 equals 7 times 8 are also useful. There are many ways to memorize things, you just need to find the way that works best for you.
